In Loving Memory of Bobby James Williams, Sr.
Bobby James Williams was born on October 6, 1940, in Charleston, Mississippi, to Robert and Uslyvan Williams, who both preceded him in death. Bobby had twelve siblings. Bobby naturally stepped into a role of responsibility, guidance, and strength that stayed with him throughout his life.
Bobby was an infant when his family relocated to St. Louis, Missouri, where he was raised and educated. He attended St. Louis Public Schools, including Simmons Grade School and Beaumont High School. From a young age, Bobby demonstrated an exceptional work ethic. He began working selling newspapers at a very young age and, as a teenager, took on multiple jobs and odd tasks to help his family.
In 1959, Bobby met the love of his life, Mattie Lou Coleman. Their bond quickly grew, and on October 8, 1960, they were united in holy matrimony, beginning a lifelong partnership built on love and commitment. Together, they raised four children in a home filled with care, guidance, and strong family values. Later in life, Bobby made the meaningful decision to accept Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, deepening his faith.
Bobby spent much of his life immersed in the St. Louis area's bowling community. He dedicated 30 years as a mechanic at Stein Brothers Bowling Lanes and also worked for many years at Brentwood Lanes. In his later years, he worked at Moolah Lanes and Pin Up Bowl, where he also provided mentorship to younger mechanics. His skill, dependability, and genuine pride in his work made him a trusted and respected figure throughout the bowling community.
A passionate and highly skilled bowler, Bobby achieved multiple perfect 300 games and 800 series, accomplishments for which he was formally recognized and took great pride. During his time at Brentwood Lanes, he owned Bobby’s Pro Shop, combining his expertise and love of the sport to serve fellow bowlers.
Bobby leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 65 years, Mattie Williams, his children, Yvette Stewart, Bobby Williams Jr., Linda Jones (Ronald), and Lisa Bush (Marcus); 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. His brothers Sidney Williams, Maurice Williams, and Andre Williams (Linda); his sisters Marcella Jacobs, Joanne Henderson, Annette Barnes, Patricia Williams, Linda Williams, Shannon Green, Deon Thomas (Robert), and Portia Dobbs. Host of family and friends.
Bobby J. Williams will be remembered as a hardworking man, a devoted husband and father, a skilled mechanic, and a proud bowler. His legacy of perseverance, dedication, and love for family will live on through the many generations he leaves behind.
